This dark image of Lady Liberty is a challenge to face our country's dark history and heal our nation's wounds. We do that by renewing our commitment to live up to the ideals enshrined our our Declaration of Independence, our Constitution, and that beautiful poem by Emma Lazarus.
The little sparrow reminds us to embrace our common nobility, pull together, and not lose hope that We the People will triumph.
We may not be half slave and half free anymore, at least in 19th century terms, but we are half left-wing and half right-wing. And propaganda has been pushing us further apart. Could the Union be dissolved? Could the house fall?
Is what I have to say helping the situation - ie, offering light to guide me and others - or am I spewing more debris into the storm that only contributes to the damage it can do?
Not only are thoughts and prayers powerful in their own right, they strenghten our actions. They may not be sufficient, but they are necessary.
It is not enough, though, to rail against Corruption. We also need to know what we are fighting for. And the antidote to Corruption is Integrity.
As a collective, we in the United States are emerging from a long, foggy stupor of complacency. As more and more corruption is exposed, we see that things have gone way too far.
"This is the time for courageous deeds." We have to rattle their cages, we have to make ourselves heard.
